The Albanach Duo were formed in 2005 they are Russell
Ballantine and Paul Devery.
Both are experienced ensemble performers having
played in quartets and trios for many years, most recently they
were two thirds of the trio Terz, who's recent CD 'The Music of
the Stuarts 'received excellent reviews.
Their repertoire extends from arrangements of early
music by John Dowland and William Lawes through the mainstream guitar
repertoire to contemporary works by Astor Piazzolla and Ariel Ramerez.
Music with a Scottish connection also features prominently, from
early works associated with musicians of the Scottish royal courts
to traditional fiddle tunes and works by contemporary Scottish composers.
The duos attention to detail is not only reflected
in the repertoire and performance but also in their choice of instruments;
a matched pair of guitars by the English luthier David Rouse, each
almost identical to the other allowing a superb balance of sonority
and tone colour.
